Inside Line Promotions – NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 4, 2019) – Derek Hagar was a part of history when the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series raced at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway for the first time last weekend during the Music City Outlaw Nationals.

“Other than the Knoxville Nationals, I’ve never seen so many people at a dirt race before,” he said. “You could feel the energy of the crowd. It was a really good experience and I’m sure it’ll keep becoming a better event if they decide to do it again.”

Hagar qualified 12th quickest in his group on Friday, starting him sixth in a heat race. He moved up three positions to finish third to garner a lock-in position into the A Main.

“We started 12th in the feature and only gained a spot to finish 11th,” he said.

The 11th-place result tied Hagar’s career-best result with the World of Outlaws. He continued to run well during Saturday’s finale, which began with the 13th quickest qualifying time overall.

Hagar started fourth in a heat race, but fell back to sixth place. That put him in the Last Chance Showdown. He started on the outside of the front row and finished third to transfer into the feature.

“Saturday the track was in better condition and we had a fast car,” he said. “We started 23rd and finished 12th in the main event, earning us the Hard Charger Award. That made me feel pretty good and we really had a good weekend overall.”

Hagar will shift back to 360ci sprint car competition this week as the USCS Speedweek resumes this weekend as long as the weather cooperates. The remaining Speedweek races are Thursday at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.; Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss.; and Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss. He is currently in the lead of the Speedweek standings.
