Hagar and Rains Returning to Action This Saturday Following Train Wreck
Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Aug. 18, 2025) – It’s been a long last few days for Derek Hagar and car owner A.G. Rains, who are persevering after near tragedy.
The team’s trailer got stuck on a railroad crossing only a handful of minutes from a race track in Tennessee last Friday. After trying to reverse to no avail, everyone got out of the truck to figure out a solution while someone on the team called the emergency phone number for the railroad. Moments later, a train heading down the track collided with the trailer.
“A.G. has been over that track before and made it,” Hagar said. “We found out after everything that happened they have raised that train track six inches and it’s made it steeper. We were there two minutes tops. That was the most helpless feeling in my life.
“We lost some valuable stuff, but the most valuable thing we kept was our lives. It was one of those things you never think would happen. Seeing it in person, it was the most helpless feeling.”
Hagar, who said the team was at the site until after midnight, is working with Rains to ensure the team continues to compete, using his truck and trailer with Rains’ equipment for the remainder of the season. The team will return to action this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., with the ASCS Hurricane Area Super Sprints.
“He’s like, ‘Don’t quit on me,’” Hagar said of Rains. “‘I don’t have any give up in me. We can race tonight or can get it going to race tomorrow night.’ He was ready to race. The smart decision that we all decided was to step back, regroup for the weekend. We have everything organized in my trailer. We aren’t going to miss a beat.
“I’m looking at this Saturday as another race. I want to do good and put A.G. in Victory Lane. That’s my main focus. He took the most impact of this whole situation. My priority is making sure we go out there and keep plugging along and competing for wins.
“I also want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support. You really find out who your friends are when big things like this happen.”
