Hagar Wins at Home Track Before Capturing Two Podiums in Alabama

Inside Line Promotions – EASTABOGA, Ala. (Sept. 2, 2025) – Derek Hagar has finished in each position on the podium during the last two weekends.

Hagar and car owner A.G. Rains have rebounded well from a devastating moment in the middle of August when a train crashed into the team’s trailer en route to a race in Tennessee. The duo made an effort to finish the season on the track and returned in fashion on Aug. 23 during an ASCS Hurricane Area Super Sprints show at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.

Hagar won a heat race from the third starting position before he captured the main event – his fifth triumph of the year.

“The first weekend back after the big incident, to come out and click off a win was big for the team,” he said. “It helped stay on track of the main focus, which is to win races.”

The team carried that momentum into a USCS Series doubleheader in Alabama last weekend, which began on Saturday at Xtreme Speedway in Moulton. Hagar advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race, placed fifth in the dash and moved from fifth to third in the A Main.

“We got up to third in the feature and I was riding around catching the guys in front of us,” he said. “The track started moving. The bottom was really good even though it was getting abrasive on top. Once we found that we stayed right there with them, but weren’t able to mount a charge to pick up a win.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Talladega Short Track. Hagar maneuvered from third to second place in a heat race and from sixth to third place in the dash to line up on the inside of the second row in the main event.

“I got the lead around Lap 10 or so and led it for a while,” he said. “I could tell my tires were going away from me. Dale (Howard) got by me with a few laps to go, but the caution came out so that saved me. Then on the last lap I blew through the rubber and got off the bottom barely enough where he got underneath me in turn three.”

Hagar’s runner-up result was his 12th top five in a sprint car this season.

A trip to Benton Speedway in Benton, Mo., is on tap this Saturday for a POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint League event.

“We’re going to run it with our 360,” Hagar said. “We’ve done it before. My dad did it in the early 2000s and I’ve done with a 360 and have been competitive. Hopefully the track stays slick and we can have a good showing.”
