Hagar Aiming for First Win of Season During Tripleheader This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (May 19, 2015) – Derek Hagar is heading into a tripleheader this weekend in search of his first victory of the season.
Hagar, who has only been able to race seven times this season, will make his debut at Timberline Speedway in Corley, Texas, on Friday with the ASCS Red River Region before tackling a pair of USCS races on Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, Miss., and Sunday at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Miss.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” he said. “We’ve had a real, real slow start to the year. We’ve been rained out a lot. This is probably the slowest start to the year I’ve ever had. I can’t recall a year when we haven’t raced that much, especially this early in the year. It’s kind of frustrating. I know we have a good team. We just need to click some wins off.”
Hagar said he is excited to venture to Timberline Speedway for the first time.
“It works out to our advantage going to a new race track because you don’t know what not to do so maybe you’ll stumble upon something that nobody has found,” he said.
Hagar went to Victory Lane last season at Jackson Motor Speedway, which is one of the first tracks where he raced a sprint car.
“I ran that track in 2006 in my second sprint car race,” he said. “I started midpack and was going for fourth, got excited and crashed the car. It’s real sandy and slicks off. It builds a good cushion. It’s definitely to my liking.”
Hagar is looking to extend a two-year winning streak at Greenville Speedway, where he won last season and claimed two features in 2013.
“Greenville has been pretty good to me so I don’t see why we can’t go there and be fast,” he said. “It’s a gumbo track. It has the potential to be heavy and rough, but most of the time it’s slick and smooth. It’s pretty racy and they have a good fan base so it’s always fun going to Greenville.”
Last Saturday’s Hooker Hood Classic was postponed because of weather, marking the 12th rain out this season on Hagar’s schedule.
