Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 10, 2016) – Derek Hagar knows how to improve on his results at the 26th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals.

“We learned some stuff and we’ll take it to next year,” he said. “We’ll try to race there next year more often to get better on the bigger tracks.”

Hagar tackled the marquee event at Knoxville Raceway last weekend beginning with preliminary action on Thursday.

“It’s all about the luck of the draw,” he said. “We had a good draw and qualified decent for not being there in a couple of years. But once you fall behind there it’s hard to catch up. We made up some ground in the B Main, but came up one spot short.”

Hagar timed in 15th quickest before placing fifth in both a heat race and the B Main to miss locking into the main event by only one position each time.

That relegated him to start eighth in the C Main on Saturday.

“We got a bad start,” he said. “A couple of cars in front of us didn’t take off. I moved to the middle and that was the wrong thing to do. I moved to the middle in turns one and two and got freight trained on the top and bottom.”

Hagar ended 11th to close the weekend.

He is slated to compete this Friday and Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., with the USCS Series and ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints Region. Hagar won during his most recent race at the track.

“We’ll go over there and make the best of it and try to get another feature win,” he said.
