Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Oct. 3, 2018) – Derek Hagar has been dreaming about becoming a Short Track Nationals champion.

It’s arguably the biggest event of the season for the Arkansas native and it’s a title that has evaded him thus far in his career. The next opportunity to capture the crown is this Friday and Saturday when I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., hosts the 31st annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals with the ASCS Mid-South Region.

“I’m pretty excited about it, especially coming off winning the Ralph Henson Memorial a couple of weeks ago,” he said. “There will be a bunch of cars there and a bunch of good drivers. It’d be nice to get that first Short Track Nationals victory. We’ve won at that track before so hopefully we can get the job done on the biggest stage.”

Hagar recently recorded his 22nd top-five finish of the season with a fourth-place run last Saturday at Riverside International Speedway.

“We started out with another awesome pill draw,” he joked. “We started dead last in our heat. We got up to third, but Riverside doesn’t do passing points so that made us start on the third row inside for the feature.

“We backed up to seventh I think and worked our way back up to fourth. We made a bid for third on the last lap, but the guy beat us by about half a car length.”
