Hagar Ends Promising Sprint Car Season Opener on a Tough Note

Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 19, 2019) – Last Saturday got off to a great start for Derek Hagar, who kicked off his sprint car season by invading I-30 Speedway.

Hagar won a heat race after starting on the pole. That lined him up on the outside of the third row for the A Main at the quarter-mile oval.

“We moved up to fifth early and on a restart I was passing a guy for fourth,” he said. “He tried to chop us and when he did it spun me sideways. Another guy had nowhere to go and cleaned me out. We had a fast race car, but just bad luck.”

Hagar was unable to restart the race and he was credited with a 20th-place result. The damage was severe enough that he will have to sit out this weekend as the frame and many parts need to be repaired.

“I added it up and I think it’s a little more than $4,000 that the crash will cost me,” he said. “That’s part of racing. We’ll get back after it in a couple of weeks and hopefully come out on top.”

Hagar is scheduled to return to action March 29-30 at I-30 Speedway during an ASCS Mid-South Region doubleheader.
